Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundations 23rd Annual Rainbow Gala Pittsburgh 2015
The Westin Convention Center Pittsburgh
was the setting of this years JDRF's (Juvenile Diabetes Research
Foundations) Annual Rainbow Gala. On Saturday, April 18th, over 700
impeccably dressed guests attended the sold out event, which raised more
than $1.7 million.
The evening began with champagne, hors d'oeuvre, and people watching while viewing the silent auction items, which included sports memorabilia, Escape Packages to Buhl Mansion and Myrtle Beach, and an Hermes Scarf, to name a few.
The ballroom doors opened to display the exquisite setting by Tolo Events, decorated in shades of cobalt blue and silver. Hens and Chicks, provided exquisite arrangements in a coral and pink palette.
Corporate chairs for the event were Laura Shapira Karet, CEO of Giant Eagle, and Dan Onorato, Executive Vice President, of Highmark Health.
The Gala Committee, chaired by Susan Philipps and Cheryl Talerico worked tirelessly to make the evening truly flawless. The planning for the event begins in August and involves a great deal of effort from all the volunteers.
One of the most impressive factors of the evening were the volunteers. Brenda Walper has volunteered for JDRF for over 9 years. Her son, Max, was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes 9 years ago. “Our family alone has raised over $200,00 for JDRF.” Her family and friends have formed a team “Max's Crew” who will participate in the Walk for JDRF, which will be held September 19, beginning in Schenley Park.
The John Parker Band provided an eclectic mixture of music from Steely Dan to Michael Jackson, which kept guest on the dance floor
Baron Batch, along with junior honorees created a fabulous painting during the event, which raised $50,000 during the live auction.
Over 30,000 people are diagnoses with T1D each year in the United States. Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease which has nothing to do with diet or lifestyle, and there is nothing that can be done to prevent it. JDRF is working toward a goal of turning type 1 diabetes, into “Type None” diabetes, with a ultimate goal of finding a cure.
