Over 800 guests arrived in style to the 2019
Pittsburgh Heart Ball, Saturday March 2, at the Wyndham Grand Hotel Ballroom.
This event is largely responsible for funding many of the American Heart Association's projects with seventy five percent of contributions supporting research, school-site programs, and public education programs in the region.
The evening began with a VIP reception, with guest speaker, Kim Tillotson Fleming, a longtime supporter of the Heart Ball, introducing the evenings awardees. Dr. Lewis Kuller, MD,DrPh, MPH, was the recipient of this year's Peter J. Safar award, and Diane Berger, BSN, RN was recognized with the Mary Ann Scully Excellent in Nursing Award.
Guests browsed the silent auction items, and had photos taken by Eventures Live Photography, while admiring the gowns, many of which were red.
The main Ballroom doors opened at 8:00 pm to reveal stunning floral and candle centerpieces by Hens & Chicks.
The evening's emcee Celina Pompeani welcomed guest and introduced Cody Sabol, a nationally recognized artist and live speed painter. Celina, recognized her father, Bob Pompeani, a heart survivor who had emceed the event for many years. Some take away facts from Ms. Pompeani:
- Heart disease is the Number 1 killer worldwide.
- Nearly half of the population of this country has some
form of cardiovascular disease
- The money raised at events, like the Heart Ball, makes
it possible to fund cutting edge research
- This is not an "old person's disease", it does
not discriminate
- Anyone, anytime can face the devastation of
cardiovascular disease
